Hey guys,

I am trying to run the trial of vs.php. It was working fine until i had to change the date of my computer (testing a program I had written) AFter this vs.php stopped working. I changed the date back and then it said you have 26 days left of your trial and when i clicked continue it just didnt load visual studio up at all!

I then uninstalled vs.php and re-installed it, and now what is happening is I am getting an error message

Package 'vs.php' has failed to load properly ( GUID = {3948A4CA-DD10-4DA9-669E013F6C1E} )

I read the other posts about IE7 can cause this. but i dont have ie7 installed.

This is a great product that I am really interested in buying. I wanna finish about my eval though. Please help me.

thanks very much

Nathan

Unfortunately, when you change the clock time, the trial time gets to 0 so VS.Php won't load again. This is quite unfortunately. We are planning to release VS.Php 2.1 in the next few days and perharps you can try this one. Because it's a new version you get a fresh 30 days with it.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi

I get the same error. This is the first time I've tried this software (the demo version), on both visual studio 208 and 2010.

Any ideas?

juanc says:

Did you try running the program menu shotcut to re-register VS.Php? That should fix it...

I am running into the same issue.

I have installed VS.PHP 2.9.2.6321, and activated it. Everything worked fine until today. I'm not sure what changed. I have tried reinstalling VS.PHP, registering it with the start menu shortcut, and re-activating vs.php with my serial number. Each time it reported the package failed to load error.

I am running Visual Studio 2008 as a standard Windows 7 account, as I have been since I installed Windows 7 (awhile ago). Until today, I've had no problems. If I run VS 2008 as an Administrator, it loads with no errors. VS2008 is designed to run without Administrative privileges. I'd prefer that I not have to run it as an Administrator just for VS.PHP, especially if it was working fine a week ago.

Any ideas as to what I can check?

juanc says:

Anything that has changed?

joshr says:

Nope, same issue today.

juanc says:

did you try re-registering VS.Php?

joshr says:

Yup.

From my original post:

I have tried:
* reinstalling VS.PHP
* registering it with the start menu shortcut
* Re-activating vs.php with my serial number

juanc says:

So if you work as admin it works but if you work as regular user it does not work?

When re-registering VS.Php, did you do it as both admin and as regular user?

Juan

joshr says:

I've tried both.

Unfortunately, the re-register fails as a standard user. An error message pops up stating "The operation could not be completed. The requested operation requires elevation."

MSDN's article on devenv.exe /setup states that it requires administrative rights to run. Since I have the ability to do so, let me try changing my account to an administrative account, temporarily, running the re-register, then dropping administrative rights on my account. I'll let you know the result.

joshr says:

I've changed my account to run as a computer administrator, by adding it to the Administrators group in Computer Management.

If I run the "Register VS.PHP 2.9 for Visual Studio 2008", I get the error message stating that it requires elevated privileges. If I run the shortcut by right clicking and selecting "Run as Administrator", it executes with no error messages. At first, I thought that I setup my account incorrectly in Computer Management, but when running as administrator, UAC prompted me to continue, so I know that's correct.

However, Visual Studio 2008 still fails with the "Failed to load package" error. This occurs whether I run it by clicking the shortcut, or by right clicking it and clicking "Run as Administrator".

So, since it didn't matter, I removed my account from the Administrators group, making me a standard user again. Now, I get the package load error when I "Run as Administrator", where this used to work. I think it was because it was running under a completely different user, Administrator, rather than my account. It appears whatever it was that corrupted my account settings to make VS.PHP not like it, happened to the Administrator account as well.

I guess I'm going to have to try completely reinstall Visual Studio.

joshr says:

Uninstalling Visual Studio 2008, cleaning out the registry of any references to VS.PHP, and reinstalling both seems to have resolved the issue.

joshr says:

Unfortunately, this appears to have cropped up again. The only things I know of that have changed since it was last working are: it's been about a week since I re-installed and used VS.PHP last, I've installed VisualSVN and Virtual Assert (Unit testing plug-in for C++).

My guess it's a time issue related to the license, as has been suggested before, or there's a compatability issue between VS.PHP, VisualSVN, and/or Virtual Assert. Those are the only three add-ins I have installed. I also have Visual Studio 2008 SP1 installed, but that was installed before I installed and tested VS.PHP only.

joshr says:

It looks like may be a compatibility problem between VisualSVN 1.7.8 (latest I'm licensed for) and VS.PHP (latest version, 2.9.2.6321).

Removing VisualSVN resolves the issue.
Re-installing VisualSVN reintroduces the issue.
Removing VisualSVN (again) resolves the issue.

I have also filed a report with the VisualSVN group.

joshr says:

Any update on this?

Jazz914 says:

Have you tried:
1) Remove VS.PHP
2) Remove VisualSVN
3) Install Visual SVN
4) Install VS.PHP

IN THAT ORDER. I had a similar problem when trying to install Visual Studio 2010 C# When ever I installed Visual Studio C#' VS.PHP Wouldn't load and Visual Studio 2010 c# wouldn't load up any files, I uninstalled both install C# first then VS.PHP and it sorted the problem.
Point of the above, install the VS.PHP last!

joshr says:

Hi Jazz,

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm pretty sure all my previous attempts were installing VS.PHP first, so I tried removing everything and re-installing VS.PHP last. It results in the same issue. Visual Studio opens with the error message "vs.php package failed to load."

Jazz914 says:

I am now getting a similar problem on my netbook, no idea why it just randomly popped up out of nowhere O_o. Seriously, turned my computer off went out to lunch, turned it back on and now i'm getting a message box everytime I load up VS.PHP I get..

"the following files were specified on the command line:

{No files listed}

These files could not be found and will not be loaded." Tried a reinstall same problem, tried reinstalling then restarting same result, no idea why its coming up seen as it lists no missing files and the program works fine anyway...

juanc says:

In Visual Studio 2010 there in an option to log package load failures. Launch devenv /log and then try to open a PHP project. The log file should tell you more info on why it is failing to load.

joshr says:

Hello,

Have you been able to reproduce this internally? I'm open to it being an issue localized to me, but I 'm not sure what else to try.

Thanks

joshr says:

Hello,

I just wanted to follow up to see if there was any more information on this. I am still having this problem.

Thanks

juanc says:

Josh,

Could you please try this build, if you haven't:

joshr says:

Hi Juan,

Unfortunately, the problem persists. I've updated my ActivityLog. You'll find it here:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8595475/VSPHPError/ActivityLog.xml

I probably should have done this to begin with, but it just came to me. I'm going to have my co-worker install VS.PHP on his computer, which is a similar development setup to my own. I'll let you know if he experiences the same problem.

joshr says:

Hi Juan,

After installing VS.PHP, my co-worker experiences the same error message. He is also using VisualSVN.

Thanks
- Josh

juanc says:

what is the version of visualsvn you are using?

joshr says:

VisualSVN 1.7.8 is what I'm using internally, which was the newest one I could use without having to buy a new license. It seems they have a 1.7.9 out now as well. I'll give it a shot tomorrow afternoon.

I think my co-worker is using a slightly older version (1.7.something).

joshr says:

Any luck with this?

juanc says:

I'm not able to reproduce the issue :-(
